I don't know if they do data security and encryption correctly. Those are the questions I want answered. Security is hard and if not done correctly, the whole internet can watch your video feed.
I do know a lot of the new "internet of things" items are done it wrong and put your entire internal network at risk.
They put ease of use over security. I want security first.

Thanks Brian...it looks like Blink's score in the encryption category is about average...wish it was a bit better. I am going to look into it some more. http://asecurecam.com/blink-security-home-monitor-camera-review/

Right now, I have more questions than answers. I will only buy a system with great security from setup to long term storage to end of life. Also, firmware upgrades must be secure and confirmable (MD5 is good enough).
And yes I understand this is "bla bla scruffy" to some. But they are the questions I have to ensure security for my data, home, family ect.

Thanks Brian....I trust that your advice is almost always sound and from that engineer mind of yours.
One thing to consider is my system is primarily so I can just check in to view workers or when I am stressed at work and I want to see my pond..I think my Blink cameras would mostly be pointed outwards from my inside window-cills...which I see limits motion detection.
The security aspect (actually catching a burglar) at this price range is really almost secondary to me. At this price it would be almost like a toy or like the doorbell camera my friend has that seems pretty cool on his phone app.
But of course I also don't want a hacker easily watching my cameras either, especially when I am walking around my cabin in my underwear...lol....hey that might be the trick to discourage hackers!

Mark, The security is data security. Is the setup secure, do you generate and keep the keys to your data? Are firmware updates secure and verifiable? Ect.
If you want to view your place remotely, there are very good systems out there. I'll see what I can find as the best value.
