I am very worried that the 2-4 inch perch I stocked into a hatchery area in my 3/4 acre pond are going to die due to the water temp reaching around 88 degrees, on the surface..the hatchery area is approximately 20x20 and approx 5 feet deep...any advise? Should I be worried, if so how to,cool it down?
The hatchery is connected to the 3/4 acre pond which is 5-6' deep around the sides and 15' middle.

At the temps above 85F and into the 90F+ you will loose some perch due to heat stress. Smaller perch will tolerate heat better than the older adults. Those that survive will be warm water tolerant and pass those genetics into the next generation.

Thank you! That is so good to know..all the perch in that area are below 4"...I stocked 50 last fall and they spawned really well..I had two small bass in there between 8-10 inches that I finally caught! Was so worried about them eating my spawn.. I was able to stretch a hose 200' to spray into the area for extra aeration today...so far I have not lost any, but, temps are staying in the 90's for the next several days, so I plan on continuing my hose sprayer aeration in the mean time!
will try to insert a photo of this area...still trying to figure out how to do that, as I am new to this forum!

The perch will hang around the lower parts of your pond where it is still cool and can tolerate some pretty low O2. I doubt you will have a problem.

Only way I can think of to cool a pond is to run aeration at night when the air is cooler than the water.

I lost 20+ 12-13" female YP in my trophy YP/BG pond this late Spring due to a combination of turbidity [crayfish] and high temps. Max depth is only 9'. It was tragic and a significant setback. I may have lost the entire population - I'll find out this Fall.

I put 100 perch in my one acre pond in the early spring and I have never seen any while I feed. I have a lot of vegetated cover on the pond and hopefully that will keep them safe from this heat.
