Hi all,
I have a sizable pond that I would like to water my yard out of. I would install a rainbird underground system and use a pond filter. I haven't figured out which pump to use yet. I understand that I need to do some calculations to figure out which one. Do and of you irrigate out of a pond / lake? If so please share some pics or descriptions of how you irrigate your lawn out of your pond / lake.

You would be surprised how much water it takes to irrigate grass. It may make sense to use a pump to fill a storage tank or cistern, then another not so expensive pump in the tank to provide the pressure to run the irrigation system.

I have been told by people in LasVagas that to keep grass green there, it takes 10ft of water over that grass each year. A good watering for grass should be 1". You can do the math. One acre 1" deep is 27,150 gallons.

They also fill their ponds with minimum five deep wells. Cheers Don.
