Have someone looking for BG eggs or newly hatched fry.
Mine got away from me: tried tossing some in tanks with artificial beds. A few males cleared out nests, but never had any eggs deposited.

If anyone knows of a source, please let me know.
Thanks

I have not seen anyone offer BG eggs or fry. I would expect very high mortalities if they are even available. They can spawn several times over the summer so keep trying the natural route.

Thanks.
FWIW I seined again after I posted, and at first only saw some 3/4" fish, but as I brought the net up, lots of 1/4-3/8" ones.
Have been looking in the few nests I can see with my "reverse periscope" (very turbid once the males started digging, clay'll do that!) and I have yet to see any eggs. Even took samples from nests that males were on, but nada.

I know I once saw something online, a guy in CA maybe, who was tank spawning BG. He had two parallel raceways with a 10" tube connecting them at one end. Males in one tank, with bird baths full of gravel, females in the other. After an acclimation period, 10" was opened and females looking for love travelled to the males, and returned when done.

I have some stacked cinder blocks at one end of a raceway, with a pan of gravel at the other end. 3 or 4 females and a couple males. First few days, one of the males cleaned out the center and waited. And waited. Then he moved off. So I tossed a couple fresh males. They have been hiding in the cinder blocks ever since. I'm thinking that perhaps they have fallen victim to the gender confusion/identity issues that seem to have befallen our nation. Maybe the intersex SMB started this whole craze? Not really sure, and not really germaine either I guess.

Tried tank spawning pairs of LMB some years back and had about 50% sucess rate, so thought this would be a breeze. Teach me to think......

STILL nothing in my tank setup.
Males not even making nests at this point.

Did have another bunch spawn/hatch in the pond.
Was able to remove some VERY small fry with a fry seine.
Moved them wet, as if we even looked at them, they died.
Still had pretty substantial mortality, even with wet move.

Add in trying to pick out chucks of SAV, algae, tadpoles, and much bigger BG that were gorging on the small ones, well, there was a lot of handling.

BUT, did manage to get 500 or so condensed into a smaller volume, boxed up, oxygenated, and driven for a few hours, and are doing well.

Temp is ambient, low 80s, slight trickle coming in from a lined reservoir.
Calling for mid 90s next few days, so expect it'll bump up a few degrees.
Tank gets a decent amout of natural light, but have a supplemental 75W incan about 6' above the tank to add a liitle early am amd and later pm, times that there is less natural light coming in, due to orientation of tank. So 18 hrs or so.
Guy in CA did 18 hrs if I recall, and a lower wattage night light on at all times.
Next year, I'll keep males and females separate until ones in pond spawn THEN I'll stick tank fish together.

If in good condition they will spawn with the right water temp and photoperiod.
