Ok so far the pond has been very good average size of BG is 10in. The average size of LMB is 21in. But we have noticed not so many big BG anymore and that we think the LMB are eating the big bluegill. I dont remember how much we originally stocked the pond with. We did last spring put in 1,000 minnows last spring and I think they ate them right up. So dad and I were thinking that we need CC and bait fish for the LMB. How much to get for CC and bait fish?
bassman have you taken any RW's of those bass? They look a little skinny to me. I think what your problem is your missing that middle sized BG maybe. How may 4 to 6 inch BG do you catch? Your larger 10 inch BG just like mine are on again off again. One day I cant catch any the next if the weather is right I'll catch 3 or 4.... Some may be on beds and so on.
If you don't have it get a RW chart and check them bass. If they are 90 percent or less.... then you have a issue with not enough of the right size feed for your LMB.
How do you correct that?
1. Make sure you have enough habitat for smaller BG to hide in so they have a chance to grow up some.
2. You may need to harvest some of your bass. Remember that harvesting fish is part of pond management. I'm curious to know what your RW's are on them bass tho....
3. Or add some of that middle class BG into your pond to help our for a while. So if you have 21 inch bass that said bass can if he feels like it eat up to a 7 inch BG. You don't have bass big enough to eat 10 inch BG least I don't think you do.... Said bass would have to be around 28 to 30 inches........
