So I have read that I should shoot for 15-20% of my lake surface open through the ice during the winter. Is that accurate? That is a big hole for a 7-8 acre lake.
Also, just so I understand this correctly. The hole vents the gasses from the water correct? Prevents the build up of Hydrogen Sulfide correct?
Here is my main question.... Does it matter if this hole is out in the middle of the lake or 20 yards off the shore? If the hole is 20 yards off the shore, will the gasses under the ice from the other side of the lake make their way over and vent thru this hole? How large of a radius can one hole in the ice vent?
