I purchased a home with a pond around 1 acre in size. I spoke with the previous owner about his pond maintenance. He was using Diuron 80DF. I researched it, and I am not real excited about using it. The fish seem very healthy. Great bass and bluegill with good size.
I am in need of advice for what to do.
We want to be able to fish and eat what we catch. Also, swimming is key for our kids. Any thoughts on his to keep it undercontrol and how safe is it to eat and swim?

You have a valid concern. I will bet that you will see it say NOT to use it within "X" amount of feet from the waters edge, and it won't be rated to be used in a pond.....
If you want a herbicide that will control all the vascular plants in the pond look at Fluridone. Sonar A.S. is a type of Fluridone.
For algae control, you have a few choices.
If the product is listed as O.K. to use in ponds, just follow the label for recommended wait times for swimming, etc. I would not be concerned about swimming if those directions are followed.
As to whether the fish are safe to eat, I do not know how long the Durion will stay in a fish's system.

I decided to go with a company to manage the maintanence of the pond. I am not happy at this time. I have a floating algae all over the pond. The previous owners used the Diuron 80DF, and had no issues. I have talked to several local people and the use Diuron as well. The pond company says I need to add a fountain. Any thoughts? Help please.

Hey fmcwhirt!
Welcome to PBF! Can you post a picture of the pond as well as a close up of a handful of the "algae?" That will make it easier for the pros to advise you.

When I try to access the pics it says I need permission from the owner.
