Hey everyone first post on this forum! We are in the process of renovating several ponds on our property and adding aeration systems to them. There is no electric available so solar systems it is. Both ponds will be roughly 1.5 acres and at least 20' deep. Been researching this topic for weeks and the main problem I have had is sourcing a pump that's up to the task. For maximum efficiency on DC power a Brushless motor is a must. Also needs to be able to pump enough volume of air to that depth. I found this: I wanted to get some feedback from you guys on this before I buy. It seems to have all the specs I am looking for. The factory has been very responsive with my questions so I think their legit.

If you have grid power within 1,000' or so, I would just bury airline in the ground and run that to the pond for the aeration system.

The pump product specifications on your link don't make sense.
Power source: DC power
Voltage: 220v;110v

It is listed as 50-60 Hz so it is an AC motor. Unless the optional controller board is an inverter or something, which if it was they would surely give input specs for DC for it.

So I think the DC is a misprint.

Inverters have gotten pretty efficient and they have the advantage of starting and stopping loads as the DC battery voltage gets out of operating range. I'm definitely no solar expert, but I would seriously look at solar panel to a battery via a load/charge controller that could automatically start and stop the load according to battery voltage. Then use an AC compressor which are readily available.

A person would not have to use an exceptionally large battery if night time operation were not needed or wanted. Just a large enough battery to handle the charge rate and input from the automated charge controller. Then the off the shelf charge controller/load controller could do the rest of the work of starting and shutting down the compressor. No need for boosters or other things to make the DC compressor work and protect it under low voltage conditions.

Just my limited knowledge opinion, worth what you paid for it.

I think the link posted is wrong. They have a 24VDC model with a brushless DC motor. BLDC motors have controllers with either AC or DC input.

The one in the post is a DC motor, but it's a Permanent Magnet motor.

Yes it is a misprint on the Alibaba website. It can be 12, 24, 36 or 48vdc powered. You can see the ESC that is included so its a brushless motor. I will try to post the actual spec. sheet from the manufacture.

I posted the spec sheet from the manufacture on these compressors. Thank you for your input. What you described is almost exactly what I am planning on doing. Was just wanting to do this without an inverter if possible.

I wish I did but this is 100 acre property with no utilities on it. This is mainly just a little hunting/fishing getaway for now.

Ok I'm bringing this old thread back to life. So last summer I went ahead and ordered 2 of these compressors (along with a rebuild kit) direct from the manufacturer in china. what I received was exactly what I wanted. A quality brushless DC air pump. They gave me the choice of 12, 24, 36 and 48 volt I went with 24 volt and this is what I came up with: http://s61.photobucket.com/user/josh_carico/library/?sort=3&page=1

This is the first prototype of what I wanted. I know the wiring is pretty sloppy as I kept changing things around. What I wanted when I started out with this project was a solar aerator that could handle at least a 1 acre pond 15 to 20 feet deep. I also wanted to aerate when the pond needed it the most, at night. This will hopefully keep the water temps down a little in the summer also. Since I was limiting the aeration time I wanted to make sure I could push enough air to make it work. I have more testing and tweaking to do but so far I am very impressed with the pump at least.

Very interesting. Keep us informed of your progress.

I could use something like that for my old pond, which is across a creek and away from electric.

Will be interested in how it works out for you.

I am very interested too. JKB was having a hard time finding a pump that would fit my application. Maybe this company has something.

Will keep everyone posted. Here is a pic of the water boil from the pump. This is a double disk vertex diffuser in 13-14 feet of water. That's a 2x4 foot island next to it to give some size reference. Going to let everything go for a few weeks to see how the batteries and solar panels perform.
