I can't find walleye to stock in our pond. We are in Ontario Canada and can't find a supplier that will supply us with some stockers.

Do you guys have any idea of where to get them as my #1 choice or what substitute predator could be used to limit the perch population in our pond.

I need something ASAP as this year we are now catching yearling perch 5-8" 1-1 of our original stocked pellet trained perch. We did remove ribbons this year but expect there was many still not found.

We have a great population of crayfish and minnows and as my last resort will add small mouth bass.

Our main goal is to harvest 30-50 large 12+ plus perch each year from our one acre.

Cheers Don.

Don,

FWIW I don't know where in Ontario you are located but this farm says they have WE.

Stocker walleye are very rare to find in spring. Stockers as 5"-11" fish are most always sold in fall. Those in the smaller size range(4"-7") are raised in crowded conditions and those 7"-11" are the preferred size and produced by IMO by the 'better' fish farms who do not over crowd their fish.

Smallies will reproduce in your pond and you will have more management effort with them keeping them from overeating your minnow-crayfish community then your YP population could decline from its current high quality. However you will produce quality smallmouth if you don't allow them to become too numerous.

I have tried these guys and tried to get on their fall list for the last three years and have never got any return correspondence.

Most all walleye hatchery's are north of us.

Bill I would hate to go small mouth. My goal is perch #1 even if I need to net and cull the young perch.

Dono says "I would hate to go small mouth. My goal is perch #1 even if I need to net and cull the young perch."
Then use SMB as a last resort. You should be able to manually thin by various methods adequate numbers of the most abundant sizes of YP to maintain the desired balance of size classes.

Dono, anyway to go and catch a few and then add them to the pond? I have caught some in Canada on fishing trips. And with me, I catch a lot of small fish and if I am lucky I will catch some bigger ones. Use the smaller ones. Don't know about transporting but some of us have a little outlaw in us smile

Any suggestions for suppliers of larger Walleye and or Larger Small mouth? we are here in Lincoln NE and our 3/4 acre pond is really coming into its own!!! The BG and minnow (oops newbie mistake I've been told) are thriving. Id like to get some larger sport fish this year. LMB were added this year as well as Cats but I truly want Walleye and SMB as well maybe even some Perch. Any help would be appreciated.
