I have an 18 ac. lake that I'm working on. We electro-shocked last year and surveyed the population. There are LMB, LES, RES, HBG, GSF and probably a lot of other fish in this old lake. There looks to be a healthy population of various minnows too. I have pulled out a few BCP. There are also a lot of gizzard shad that I would like to get rid of but I'm not sure how to do that. I can't seem to catch them but the occasional osprey seems to make off with several when they are active.
Is there another way to deal with the gizzard shad? They definitely are there in large numbers tearing up the food chain.

A way to reduce the number of Gizzard Shad is a light Rotenone application. They are very sensitive to it. The state here uses that method in some of the public lakes where someone bucket stocked Gizzard Shad and they took over the lake.

They are Gizzard Shad for sure. Most are about 8 to 10 inches long. They rise and strike the surface often, but don't take a lure.
Thanks for the tip Esshup-I'll research your suggestion.
