I am thinking about aeration for my 1/4 acre pond that is 10.5 ft deep at normal pool. It is slightly oval, 128 ft long by 95 ft wide. I would need to bury about 820 feet of poly air line from the house to the pond. I am thinking a single diffuser would be sufficient, as the pond is approximately bowl shaped in profile. Could I get by OK with burying 3/4 inch poly pipe? The usual frost line here is about four inches, and this would be through a hay field. How deep to prevent damage by the haying equipment? The ground is not rocky, only occasional medium to small gravel.

John,
I would plant it 18 inches minimum, 24 better. Never know when you might want to do something with the hay field and a rented trencher can go that deep pretty much as fast as a lesser depth. I would check the price difference between 3/4 and 1 inch. I think 3/4 would be fine for 1.5 to 2 cfm but, if it doesn't cost much more, I would go 1 inch. You might want to grow the system someday and if it doesn't hurt much now to add a little pad to the system......
