I am hand feeding CC and BG in my 1/4 acre pond. Should I continue to feed in the same place every day or move around the pond? I have noticed that the fish are continually hanging around near the place I have been feeding out from my little dock. I want them to use the entire pond, not just the little spot near the dock. Will feeding in this one spot cause them to over use this area and pollute it, or not go and find the natural forage elsewhere?

Whenever you hand feed fish you will get more muck from fish just because the fish are excreting more nitrogen and ammonia which does cloud up the water somewhat more depending on how much you feed them. I wouldn't personally worry about them polluting one side since the waste typically disperses throughout the pond especially since 1/4 acre is necessarily that large. You can however feed in different sides to try to get the fish more dispersed but its not mandatory that you do. The best advice I can give is limit the amount of food to limit the excess of fish waste. I'll let other people chime in since they may of had a similar problem.

Also on a side note check how much you are infact feeding your fish. They may be getting plenty of food and that might be the reason why they are probably not moving around. Hope that helps.

Personally we ride in the artic cat around our ponds feeding at certain stop points. Fish will stop and feed then continue to follow the artic cat around the entire pond.

We feed in one spot only all year. It is close to the only cover we offer for the smaller fish so all the small fish get some too.

I would feed from the wind side of the pond if I hand fed. It is really crazy when the wind is blowing back on shore and the perch come into 6"s of water to grab it. The crayfish and small minnows end up getting more food the days the wind is blowing back on shore.

Cheers Don.

I have fed the fish in my pond from the same spot for as long as I've owned the house. I feed on the SW corner of the pond, the wind is typically West or some variant of it.

I have not seen the pond get any shallower in that area.

With that said, the feeder throws food a good 50'-60' and about 40' wide at the widest point.

The food typically drifts with the wind, and fish on the other side of the pond end up eating the leftover floating pellets.
