i checked the mail yesterday and found my fly order! 86 lovely little fish getters. I checked the clock and it was over n hour before hubby should be home. Good, I thought, I can sort and store them before he gets home. I was thinking wrong, he came home early and with love and caring suggested I needed an intervention. My father, who understands large orders of flies multiple times per year, told me it would be ok, cause the rehab plce has a ten acre lake. I'm signed up for early next week. Wonder how many fly rods nd boxes I can take....

What kind of flies?

Where do you get the flies from?

Walking into Tailwaters is dangerous, especially when you throw flies for bass.....

What they have in the shop is more than double what they have on-line............. I didn't see one fly that I bought in the shop the last time I was there in their on-line store.

Good thread, CMM as I'm sure many here can relate! lol

Although my passion for fishing began after my divorce, there may be a reason I'm still single!

(and this is nothing compared to what I saw in Scott's (Esshup) garage!)

Maybe I need to check out Farmersonly.com crazy

All that aside, I'd love to see a pic of your fly collection! And I did try the bead head you suggested for BG and it worked great! Thanks for that!

Oh, and having met Michael and that he understands your passion for fly fishing, I'm sure he was nothing short of ecstatic with your new purchase grin .

You both are awesome!

Keith, as you can probably guess, Mike was not upset, just giving me a bit of a tease. If he stops my gun and fishing purchases, I stop his car collecting! We have an arrangement. Glad the bead heads worked out for you.

Oh, and don't get me trying to keep up with the guys on here. You'll get labeled a troublemaker laugh

Essup, it's Orvis that I have to stay out of... Don't have a lot of fly shops around here, so it's on line for me unless I get to the big city.

I can usually get a box of Dad's hand tied for Christmas though.

Things that go bang, huh? wink grin

Yeah, Boom sticks are almost as fun as the fly rods. But ammo prices are scary these days, I can use a 50 cent fly for longer than I can use a 50 cent .45 round.

Progressive Dillon Press and reload. Still more expensive than a fly, but cheaper than buying new.

I've thought about both reloading and tying my own flies. Haven't jumped on either yet. Maybe one day.

Scott, what I remember from Al's garage (or shop) was admiring the "tank" he had in there that he was attempting to re-wire.

I just remember the boxes & cases you were showing us at the lake house. It seems you had tackle for about every species of fish, freshwater and saltwater!

Cim, I didn't intend for that to sound so sarcastic. You both seem to have so much respect for each other and each other's interests, but most impressive was seeing how much you both enjoy each other, (including the teasing smile ) . And the best part, was sharing those passions with us! From learning about and fly-fishing your pond, the boom sticks, to Michael's cars and music, not to mention the great food and conversation!

PS - I'm still reliving that trip and could recite what we did every day, who met, and how you all went out of your way to make it such an incredible adventure for us! Memories forever etched!

But back to the flies, it's the smallest part of my tackle collection because of not knowing what to get, so I will either get an assortment or whatever the "fly guy" at Cabela's or Bass Pro suggests but most of them don't fly fish for LMB, HSB and BG (and I'm not discounting the PBF suggestions).

This is why I'm so curious to see your collection grin

Another PS - And don't think I don't know exactly how long of a drive it is from Walton, NE to every PB member we encountered grin

Ah, Keith, I knew you were razzing me!

If you want some pics of the flies I use most often, I'll send you some. What I have noticed is that some online places don't list what size a fly is, I try to steer clear of ordering from them. Some "bass" flies are too big to throw with my 8 wt, well, that and my technique is not all that good! For a 6 wt rod strung with 6wt, weight forward line, stick to flies around 16 to 10. Depends some on how bulky the fly is too, and if you are using a dropper off the main fly.

And don't think you are too far away for retribution if it is needed, lol.

Keith:

Well, yeah, there were a number of boxes, and I know you didn't see them all.... That one Saltwater box? I made it and you need a two wheeled cart to move it around. To bring it on the boat I had a folding one.

But in the LMB department, I know Al has me beat hands down.

CMM, where do you order your flies from?

I got this order from Big Fly company. Free shipping on over $40, was here in 2 days, flys look excellent quality. Discounts on 6 or more of same size and color. 86 flys for just over $70.
I also get flys from my dad, who ties and teaches fly tying classes. When I visit him, I get a huge discount at Orvis, so usually pick some up there too. But they are much pricier online than other dealers! They do have some neat patterns tied by in house guys and
local fishermen that aren't available on line or at other dealers. I suppose most fly shops do that though.

And my husband is no longer allowed to tease me about the amount of fishing gear I own! I'll just show him these posts. Lol

Sunil, I see the come in 4/0 only, what size rod are you using? Those look killer, but my biggest rod is an 8.

Cmm, I only have a 6/7 weight. I never paid any attention to the 4/0.

I guess I'll make it work!!
