Took a panoramic photo of the entire project. You can really see how well the pond is coming together around the house. They should be sloping the banks this week.

Oorah!

You are definitely only a few minutes from me.

I did some of the aerial estimates using the Google tool, and the current size is around 3/4 of an acre. We anticipate that we will have a little over an acre once all of the sloping is done. The original plan was 2 acres, but that was obviously prior to my encounter with a bad contractor. As far as depth, the deepest spots are around 10-12 feet, which should be great for stocking!

Dinsmore, your pond is awesome looking! It's exciting to see the slopes forming. Mine should be hitting that stage in the next few weeks.

You're lucky to have 30' depths. We aren't hitting the foundation dirt that is highly desirable like you are. Instead, we have found a mixture of clay and really fine sand - neither of which is highly sought after right now. I'll end up around 10-12 feet throughout.

yea they found clay under the hard pan so they left a lil at the bottom as a base and to keep the water qualtiy good, finding lots of springs to! gonna be hard to use a crank bait in 30 ft lol wish i was back home to tell them to leave some steps in the bottom here and there

Finally got some work done. Been very busy on the house so we didn't do too much on the pond. We should be finishing up in the next couple of days. I also attached a picture of my free flowing well smile

Added a couple of pictures: 1 of the pond facing the house and 1 of the house/shop project. Project is really starting to take shape. They are waiting for the septic guys to get off the property before they finish up the final grading.

Yep, gonna be nice.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

We have enjoyed our pond next to our house more than I ever imagined we would. Hope you enjoy yours as much.

The pond level is nearing full pool now. You can see the artesian well working hard to fill her up! We've planted some winter rye around the banks and should hopefully see some growth soon.

Just ordered 1100 coppernose BG, 200 red ear sunfish, & 1500 FHM. Pond is at full pool and starting to look amazing! Even have some blades of winter rye starting to grow on the banks. I've attached a couple of pictures of our progress as of late.

Thanks guys. Honestly, the shape was by accident. The original plan (halted by my poor pond contractor) was to dig out to around 2.5 acres, or half of the property. The current contractor did all he could to make it as large as possible. We actually added a lagoon toward the back of the property. You can see this in both of the pictures I attached to this post (should be an awesome spot for LMB).

The stocking company is all set to be at the property around noon on Monday. Looking forward to getting some fish in there! I'll also be setting up some pallets soon and possibly a load of crushed concrete.

Shout out to Bobby Rice who is in my area. He's been very helpful during the past few weeks and has helped point me in the right direction with all of this!

ponds fill pretty quickly down here due to our low elevation and high water table. But the that free flowing artesian well sure made it fill quicker.

I use mine to keep it topped of when we have our dry spring time weather and to keep it artificially warmer when we have unusually cold weather from time to time to make sure any of the cold sensitive fish are ok.

Does it have an over flow at all?

I am working on a float valve system for mine so I will not have be constantly turning it off and on during heavy rains or dry weeks. Ill let you know how it works out when I get it going.

Yes, my overflow is on the far side of the pond by where the lagoon starts. Overflow looked really low when we first started, now it appears to be just right.

That's a good idea to control your free flowing well with a float valve. Can't wait to see the result.

I offered to get him some additional forage items not available from the fish stocking folks.

I have access to lots of Native Grass shrimp and Native sail fin mollies. I think they will only add to the food chain. Diversity in the food chain always seems like a good idea.,

My Son in law was just transferred on 1/1/16 off a nuclear attack sub based in Groton CT to a boomer sub based in King's Bay GA. Hoping this will be the last assignment for him till retirement. I'm looking forward to lots of visits there soon!

Is King's Bay near you, USMC?
