I am considering putting some cotton seed cake in plastic buckets under my dock to attract fish/minnows. (Small holes drilled in the buckets). Maybe put some mesh around the buckets to provide cover for the minnows.
Has anyone done this?

We used to put it in onion sacks and some people would put it in a nylon stocking. We used it to bait a whole for catfish and or crappie. Should work fine for you. Bill it is compressed cottonseed made into a waferlike board called a "cake". You can break it off into pieces. It dissolves real slow and fish just peck on it. Works great.

For some reason, I'm envisioning rice cakes. Now, whoever invented those... Now, I'm having a flashback to the Price Is Right with Bob Barker and the overly excited contestant is trying to guess the price of the Rice Cakes to win fabulous prizes!

Do Cotton seeds pop like popcorn? I like popcorn with lot's of butter!
Inquiring minds want to know.
Let's say I have a bag of cotton seeds, and well, conditions are prime. Do I get to stuff my pillows again?

There was a guy on here a long time ago who did it. But I think he used pellets. He strapped it to his dock. I believe he used sewer drain pipe. The BG sucked the mush out and the bass were always around picking off the BG.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

That looks like the right stuff for a minnow trap. Mr Creek, thanks for posting the link, that explains the product pretty well.

Interesting information here from a S Carolina producer: Carolina Meal Cake Also read this tip in an Amazon review: "Smash it with a big hammer in the bag. Pour it into a bucket with a can of cream corm, jar of sorghum and flour to thicken to heavy dough. Carp and channel cat tear this up."

We'd use cotton seed cake years ago to chum around trot lines. If you can ever get ahold of some pogy meal (dried n ground menhaden), you'd never want to use anything else...
