I would have added some artificial vegetation but this is what the customer wanted. Had to do some serious repair work on the tail fins as they were trashed! I retrospect I should have varied their fins and bends a little but the customer was happy.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Very cool Cecil! I have a couple questions.

1) Do your customers provide the driftwood or do you have a supply?
2) Are there different finishes for the fish available like gloss, satin, etc?
3) I have seen some cool mounts where the fish is in an action pose with body bent like he is turning to chase a fish. Are those harder to do?

Well done. Maybe when the dollar swings back to a more reasonable conversion I will get a perch one from you.

Very nice work.

Cecil, throw up the diorama that you did for SDSU. That may give Bill D something to dream about.

Here is a close-up of the diorama, from inside the room.

Here is the plaque.

1. Sometimes they do, but usually I do. The driftwood I prefer comes from Texas and it's actually cedar stumps from cedar trees that were cut by CCC workers back during the depression. It's cut into pieces and tumbled in gravel.

That particular piece came from a fellow taxidermist friend and I'm not sure where it came from.

2. I do what the customer wants. Most want a heavy gloss wet look that is an automotive clear coat. I had one where the customer wanted his fish flat with no gloss. The automotive clear coat protects the paint from UV rays.

3. Not hard to do.

Here is a recent white crappie going after a minnow.

Cecil,
I've always fished for LMB, but didn't put any in my pond. I went with YP and SMB. I've been catching YP and I find them delicious! Ha, so I guess I'm changing my loyalties.
Do you have a picture of a YP mount?
Also, do you have a website with pricing info, etc?
Thanks
Jeff

9 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep.
RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (going away), SMB, and HSB (only one seen in 5 yrs) Restocked HSB (2020) Have seen one of these.
I think that's about all I should put in my little pond.

Cecil, you are an artist for sure !! I would like to have a coffee table whit a covey of Bobwhite's and another of the fish in my pond. Problem is they would not go with the rest of the furnishings in the house. I am going to have to work on the home décor person in my house smile I might need to do a little sucking up !!

Nice work

Tracy

Have a pic of some yp mounts somewhere. Will look.

Had a website for years and when my local server made changes they wiped it out. I couldn't complain as It was free and I was supposed to be paying a fee.

I'm swamped without a web page or yellow pages. Been doing this for 30 plus years and advertising is word of mouth. That said I do want to get a website back up soon.

I'll PM you prices as I don't think it's right to post them here.

Tracy,

Can't help you with the birds. I'm self taught and never found the time to play with birds. Did do gameheads at one time. I have a hard enough time keping up with fish. 100 lakes in just my county!

There is a YP in the back right corner of the diorama. I think it is one of your home grown ones CB1 or its from Bill .

Channel Cat replica I did. Superior to catfish skin mounts.

Awesome stuff Cecil. Hope I have a fish worthy to have you mount someday! smile

I was trying to find the PS in the diorama. Is it in the NP's mouth?

Bob,

I'm thinking he hadn't finished the hand yet. The hair on the arm looks ALMOST real though! grin

What would worry me is if the hand is a skin mount.
