So...as a recap, when I treated my pond with Soilfloc I put some fiberglass poles in to mark my water level/treated area. Plan was to treat between the poles and the waterline after a rain, move the poles to the new waterline...lather, rinse, repeat until full.

We had a four inch rain late November that filled the bottom of my pond. I dropped a hose on the shore and emptied 2500 gallons of rainwater I had captured in a tank. After that we had a half inch rain. Without any further treating, my waterline, after a month with only a half inch of rain, is right where it was a month ago after the 4 inch rain.

So the leak I had must have been in the bottom of the pond when the water was very low.

I have since restocked (treatment killed off my pond due to a very low water level at the time of treatment).

I still have what is left of the Soilfloc to treat the bank, if needed, as my water level increases. Hoping to be at full pool when spring starts.

Great news, Sean. I hope you continue to get timely rains, and glad the restocking effort was successful. If I can ever help further, just a phone call away! Thanks for being part of the Hudland Management team!

Pretty happy with the product so far TJ. I was losing 1-2 inches a day. I think I lost about 2 inches in a month now.

Does the Soilfloc always kill the fish? Even a spot treatment?

John, I think I am the first to have a full on fish kill. I treated the whole pond at once and my water level was maybe 3 ft at the deepest. In short, I made a polymer soup out of my pond. This (fish kill) has not been the norm for others that have used the product.

With the experience i have now with the product, I think if I had to do it again in the same situation I would have treated maybe 20-25% of the pond at a time.

That's more amazing results - I'm really glad to hear about the vast improvement and happy to be a part of a happy ending to this story. Considering an acre inch of water is 27,000 gallons, losing an inch a day is 189,000 gallons a week; 756,000 gallons a month! We had a pretty average precipitation year in SE NE following a couple heavy rains in the Spring, and my electric bill on the farm was reduced by 75% in 2015. My family is grateful for the savings, considering it costs $400/month to run my 5 HP well pump keeping up with the leaks that used to plague me. I'm treating my last 3 ponds this Spring and will hopefully only run the well to keep up with evaporation moving forward. I can certainly live with that scenario.

Would someone please post the link to the original thread? I'm so lame at using the search option I can't even find my own name on the users list. Thanks in advance.

Thank you Bill that is the one. Now all I have to do is wait till it's not 80 and sunny to read it all. Yes, I'm rubbing in your N Il weather since you made fun of me for getting lost in N Oh with Cecil instead of stayin down here.

Bill D, there are a few threads on here about Soilfloc. The last one Posted about my pond was here: http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=426986&page=1

I've worked on 25 projects now, two had issues with floating product, otherwise we're operating at a 90%+ success rate with at least a 50% reduction in water loss. If anyone ever needs more detailed information feel free to ping me and we can set up a time to connect. Happy to help anyone I can.

Two more inches of rain....looking good so far.

The fiberglass rods are totally submerged.

With my geothermal unit running water into my pond in August I was losing about 1/2" per day. I spot treated my dam with one unit of SoilFloc and 2 weeks later I was only losing 3/16" of an inch per day. I have quit measuring, but I haven't ran water into my pond other than my geothermal for 3 months and I haven't had any noticeable loss of water. Some may be due to less evaporation and some may be the SoilFloc improving the seal even further. But I'm positive my geothermal is now running less than in August and apparently I have no noticeable water loss. I've certainly gained.
