And dang nice ones.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

James -- those are beauties. What have you done about your catfish?

We kill every catfish either by eating them or throwing them on the bank. There is no limit to the number of catfish in our pond. Thank you for complements. Bob said we were heavy on the adult gizzard shad so we took out about 60 lbs of the big ones.We took out quite a few bass and crappie too. I wish the shock boat worked on catfish.

Kinda hard to judge from picture, how big were those adult GSHD? Did you know that you were shad heavy?

James, they more I learn about your pond, the more I am liking what you have done. Nice Red Ears smile you mentioned earlier trapping some TFS @ a nearby lake, but here u mention Gizzard SH. Did you mean to have these in the pond? Or in trapping was a mistake made determining the difference in these two types of shad? The Red River here, is full of shad here and during certain times of the yr, they would be fairly easy to trap some using a cast net but I am concerned I might trap they GSD instead of the TFS. My pond is not ready for the GSD yet but might be someday. And again I like what you have done.

I had gizzard shad and threadfin shad at one time but the threadfin have declined or died due to our hard winters in the last couple of years. If I could learn to throw a cast net I could replenish the pond with threadfin since I am only about five miles from a large reservoir that is full of them. The gizzard shad we removed were very large adults that only a few of my biggest bass could eat. Bob thinks that most of the spawn from this year traveled down stream when my dam broke this spring and I lost this years spawn. I was also surprised that I didn't see any large crappie but we also didn't get any catfish. The boat only reaches about six feet deep.

James are your gizzard shad easy to castnet/catch? I may have to come take some off your hands one day soon if you still have too many!

If you can throw a cast net they are in the bubbles and easy to catch but they are shut off for winter. Come see me when I turn them back on in the spring
