I enjoy trapping minnows but I need to find a way better way to sort out the sticklebacks. Up to this point I have just sorted them by hand and it can be very time consuming. Does anyone have any tips? Would a fish grader work? If so, what size? I want to separate out the sticklebacks from the fatheads, golden shiners, and red belly dace.

They are inferior forage IMHO. Very bony with less flesh.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

FWIW when I buy FHM at my fish farm, there are probably 5% stickleback mixed in. I stock them anyway. I have seen no sign of them again in my minnow traps or in the shallows. Makes me wonder if that tendency to hide Shorty mentioned is their downfall in my pond with CC scavenging for a snack in every nook and cranny on the bottom.

When I pull my minnow traps, there are usually 25-50% sticklebacks. I would rather not put that many into my pond.
