I have 2 ponds that I want built next year but cannot find an experienced contractor, nor have time to oversee the work. I need a consultant that will work with me to draw up plans, hire the work done, and make sure it gets constructed as planned. I am west of Indianapolis. Any help identifying an experienced consultant that can get this done well is much appreciated.

RAH,

My experience is for us folks north of the Ohio river, the type of pond builder you are looking to get are hard to come by. I did get a recommendation here on the forum that there is a real pond building pro in central or southern Illinois that might be close enough to you. Maybe one of the other guys will remember and shoot you his name.

Good Luck!

Course you aren't that far from Hoosier Pond Pros!

Must be no market for a good pond builder here?

I suspect our building season is too short and not enough volume to sustain a dedicated pond building pro.

Edit: Left me with choices of dirt movers that have built a pond or two before. Then when you hire someone to do the job and the weather is perfect, they are busy digging a foundation somewhere, which is their bread and butter work. You are a job when they have nothing to do for a day or so.

I wish I could help, RAH, but I simply don't know any consultants outside of those here on the site.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

I think most of these are too far away to oversee the construction on a daily basis.

RAH There was a member on here years ago who lived in Greencastle, Indiana named (Lakedoctor) who built a lot of ponds around his area and was very sharp on things that had to do with building ponds. Don't remember his real name maybe someone else like Cecil or Bill Cody would remember him.I just remember he knew a lot about building Ponds the right way. I have been away from site for a few years raising kids and sports, and now have grandkids playing sports, keep the wife and I running, but we love it. Just wish I had found this site before I ever built my pond back in 2002 I never would have hired the guy that I did. Cost me a lot years later to get it done right. So you are doing it right looking for pond builder and not dirt mover. Good Luck PO

RAH you might check with Rust Construction out of Seymour IN

(812)497-2400 they have been in business since 1953 and have done several large lakes in Indiana.Their website is Rustconstruction.com. Another excavating company is Conwell Construction out of Hartsville IN (812)546-0633.Conwell did a complete lake renovation for Tony Stewart a few years ago in cooperation with the owner of Bass Pro Shops. If I remember right the lake went 6-8 acres to about 13-14 acres.
