That fish is tremendous! Nice job!

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

What a pig!

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

i am terrible at guessing weight. i bought digital scales last year and the first fish i caught weighed 3/4 lbs. i would have guessed a pound. this fish is way larger than that one, but still not sure of weight. i need to get me a basket or net to put the fish in to weigh them. im afraid i will kill them with the hook on the scales going into their gills.

any thoughts on something to put them in to weigh? maybe some sort of net bag?

Bass Pro/Cabelas has bags just for that

Or for something cheap and light, why not one of those plastic grocery bags?

Scott69.

In case I missed it where did your bluegills come from. Any coppernose in them?

Sure looks like a coppernose. Either way it's tremendous!

Looking good. I make them out to be 2x6" wood which would probably make that gill around 10.5". If I correct on length and judging by size in photo in my Part of Bama a gill that thick would probably be just over 1#.

Here is the link to the ACES relative weight calculator ny Auburn and Alabama A&M.

If that were anything besides a fish it would fall into the grossly obese category.

Thankfully, here that's totally acceptable laugh

I get so envious seeing the pictures of those huge BG, that I would completely rethink my goals if I had it to do all over.

Awesome fish!!!

Yes they are mainly coppernose. I did start off with a mix of regular bg and coppernose. Due to my otter predation i have stocked it a few times since pond was built in 08. American sportfish in montgomery,al.. Greg Grimes, and also southeastern pond. The reason i used different suppliers is because of availability. i didn't want to start over with 2 inchers since i already had bass. it seems the bass survived each time the otters came to town. each of these suppliers brought me some 5" each time.

Update on the weight- i used a simple walmart bag to put a few fish in today to weigh them. i don't know why i haven't already thought of that. guess it was too obvious. My neighbor caught one today that weighed exactly 1.5 lbs!!!! the one in the picture yesterday was larger than his, i know i know us fisherman are known to lie, but i promise the one in the pic is larger than 1.5 lbs. i was pleasantly surprised when i saw his was a pound and a half. i think i am well on my way to a 2 pounder if not already there. i will try to take more pics and try to include scales in the picture too.

i cant imagine where i would be if the otters hadnt been an issue. my limited management consist of: i have always tried to take out all females when i catch them, very bass heavy, and feed aquamax 05 and 06 with a sweeney feeder. i feed once a day right now, but 4 times daily during the peak season. when i fillet these fish they seem greasy. i think the feed is packing the weight on them.

I have no trouble believing your bluegill was 1.5 lbs. or bigger. My bluegill although stout are not that stout and are already a pound at 9.5 inches on a board. My biggest so far a 1 lb. 7 oz. fish was, if I remember right only 10.5 inches and not as stout as yours.

Scott, I really like your BG program - fantastic specimen!
I see strong CNBG straits.
We take out all females over about 5 inches and leave smaller for bass food.
Our CNBG seem to top out at about 10+ inches and then just get broader and thicker. Lost most of our best in drought fish kill couple of years ago.
Hope to check on them today and see how they survived this crazy winter.
Keep us up to date on your program - love CNBG!

we have had a lot of rain here on and off this winter and my pond has been really stained. there was some road construction in part of my watershed that has contributed to the staining also. my fish have been very pale in color recently, but the last few days the water is clearing and temps have been climbing and some of the cnbg colors are starting to come out.

The fish looks dead and bloated. Stick a hook in its mouth , viola, trophy bream.
