... for growth. Supplier say's 70° - 84°, but if you were to narrow it down to within a few degrees, what would that be?

The nights have been pretty cold here, mid 40's and the little pond cools right down. Plan is to move them into the basement soon as well as get a bunch more. They have been eating well, but I haven't seen one in over a week now go after any feed.

Thanks!!

I've always wondered about controlling the variables such as photoperiod and water temps to try and replicate "prespawn" conditions. Our HBG are super aggressive on the feedbag during this period, it would be awesome to maintain and lengthen that brief window in order to encourage feeding/growth.

I don't know what temps provide the best growth, but if we're relating growth to feed intake then I believe our HBG favor cooler temps. Ours are heavy on feed around 65-68 degrees.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Thanks Spark - I didn't know if there were any magic numbers out there. I searched the web and didn't find anything significant as far as a narrowed down range. I can start at the low end and raise it a degree every few days and see if there is any difference on feeding. I'm favoring the low end as the basement is not generally heated and it could get expensive to have to crank it up too much.

There is very little info on HBG. There is a good bit of info like what you requested on BG and some on GSF. There are different temps - max feeding temp , max growth temps and max energy use temps which are not the same. There is info on indoor spawning temps and photoperiod requirements as well. Make a list of questions and I will see what I can find.

Thanks Eric.

Funny, but I haven't seen one HBG since I started this thread. Plenty of places to hide, but usually they poke out once in a while.

The little pond is a recirculating pond with a filter/sump and biofilter. Been cleaned a few times with no morts in the sump, which is where they would eventually end up.

On a different note, I thought all the GSH croaked early on because when we clean the sump, that is where they all ended up. I was happy to see quite a few between the 4-5" range swimming about. Once the HBG got big enough, they smoked all the FHM.

I think I'll put some GSH in a 40 gal aquarium breeder tank in the basement. Petco had a sale on these a couple months ago and I picked up 4. I would like to get some Northern Redbelly Dace to mess with.
