Has anyone acquired a digital, bench type scale for weighing fish that they are satisfied with? I've been through several postal scales, kitchen scales...my current one crapped out last night.

I would like one that had a platform or tray around 10" wide, water resistant, and accurate at low weights (usually meaning it doesn't have the capability of weighing 300 lbs). If it didn't cost $500 that would be an added plus.

Any suggestions?

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Tony, I'm absolutely no help, but if somebody has a suggestion for one that could accurately weigh a 9" CNBG, I'd buy 2.

Tony, cover the scale with clear plastic....WAY cheaper and even more effective at keeping out water than the so-called water resistant scales. Most modern scales will get a pretty accurate weight on even a flopping fish from, the averaging programming used in them.

I think my scale has an 11" X 14" tray, weighs up to 80 pounds, tare weight, counts inventory by weight and is accurate to .01 ounces. It weighs in .1 pounds, .01 ounces, both straight pounds and ounces, or in grams, Kg.

I've had it about 6 years, purchased on ebay for under $60

I've done the clear plastic thing and it works. Did learn my lesson though when I thought I would be clever and enclose the entire scale in a large ziplock. Those bags trap a lot of heat when the scale is exposed to sunlight for a time. That was the end of that particular scale.

I'll keep an eye open and see what I can find. Rex, would love to find one with a large tray like yours, that sounds ideal. Al, if I hit paydirt I'll let you know!

Sprkplg,
I use a $20.00 scale from Big Box store of your choice. It goes in the canoe 3x per week. It is currently coated with a combo of fish slime, pond water, dirt and a smattering of dried pond weeds. The tray is small at 6"x6". I have a tub 10x20 that I put fish in and use the Tare function to get weight. Max wt is only 11lb, but accurate down to .05oz or 1 gram. I have used this for 3 years now and haven't even replaced the batteries! I used to put it in a large zip lock, but haven't bothered in the last 2 years.

It works for me.

I've also used that scale, even made a custom tray that attached to it. And it worked pretty well. I'm just looking for something a little larger, and maybe more robust?
