I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions on where to buy some sort of net to trap fish/catch fish? I'd like to try and do some fish sampling if possible.

Ideally I'd just as soon buy a net if it's not going to cost me a fortune and isn't a cheap peice of crap but I guess if anyone has some plans/pictures of a DIY solution that might work.

I've attached some nets I found on Amazon that I thought might work but I'm fairly certain they're shipped in from China and crap.

Here is a thread on minnow traps that might be useful.

minnow traps

Some sources of traps are places like Academy Sports, Bass Pro, Cabells's, Amazon, eBay, etc.

Also plans for making your own on Utube.

Others will have to chime in on things like seines or Fyke nets.

There are several sources depending on what you want. They can be anywhere from Wal-Mart to custom made. Also several types of material.

As I understand it there are two main types of nets.

Fyke = passive netting (set the net up and come back later to retrieve your fish)

Seine = active netting (you pull the net through the area where you want to catch fish)

Are you looking for either of these types?

Probably more passive. I guess I don't want to go wading into the pond but if I have to pull up a net with a rope while standing on my pier sipping some beer, that's fine. I just don't want to get too dirty smile.

I did order one of the tubular fyke like nets off ebay ($5 shipped--how good can it be but if it catches some fish, whatever).

I know I saw most of the build it yourself threads already I think. The metal framed one is way more elaborate than I'm thinking. I was more looking for a say 6' long fyke net but I didn't see any of those at any of the places mentioned. I'm sure the custom guys could build it but I don't want to spend a ton here (ideally $50-100).

I'll check that out too. I really didn't think they had anything much.
