I live in south western Michigan and my pond is approximately 3-/4-1 acre, averages 12 feet deep, stocked wit Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Sunfish, and minnows that we know of. We have caught a flathead catfish and a perch out of it before as well.
We use Pure Bacteria to help with dead matter digestion. However this year we see to have been over run by the attached vegetation. It makes fishing almost impossible as each cast results in a collection of more plant. We have tried manual removal by rake and by drag just to see it grow back thicker.
Please help identify and if you can provide natural remedies for the attached pictures. This plant is growing from depths up to 16 feet and mats on the surface.
Looks to be a piece of Chara to me. Smush up some samples, if it smells skunky, it is Chara.
The stuff forms large heaps when happy, building up over time. Oddly enough, it seems my koi keep knocking it down in search of goodies, so they have some benefit besides being carp.
NICE POND! Welcome to the PB Forum and welcome from another SW MI pond owner/lover.
I can't identify based on your first picture, but someone likely will soon. I know I had a eurasian milfoil outbreak last year, knocked it back but had to re-apply for a much less outbreak this year.
Do you aerate? Have visiting waterfowl? How did the fish get there did you stock from fish truck, out of state, hand stock, etc?
