My pond is being overan by turtles, bought a trap but it will not work.....does anyone out there know of a trap that does???? The trap that I have was not cheap and is supposed to work on the basis of the turtle climbs on it to do his sunning and goes out to far and flips off into the cage below. Good idea but the turtles sun on everything in th pond but the contrapsion. Any help would be appreciated, I cannot fist for catching a turtle.

Hi gdwhite54. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I don't understand what problem the turtles create. Almost everyone feels the same way you do and as a future pond owner I would like to understand the reasoning.

Thanks for the reply, I have nothing against turtles dont get me wrong, 5 years ago when my pond was built they were not much of a problem but now I have at least 150 in the 3 acres. I feed daily and they are ther and get most off the feed, when fishing I catch 2 or 3 in about 30 minutes and I usually get frustrated and quit. I dont beleive and will not kill the turtles, they will stay here before I do that, but I would like to reloacate some of them. I hope this answers you question. Thanks

gd...I posted how to build a turtle trap a while back that does work,I have one in my pond, let me know and I can explain it again. And be aware, turtles will walk up to 10 miles to get back home to their own pond if given the chance.I was appaulled when I reseached and found that out.

Thank you, I did a search and could not find the post you mentioned, but if you could instruct me how to build one that would be great. I am aware of the 10 mile rule with the turtles, that is amazing to me...just hard to believe. Thank you

I built/use the turtle trap described at the bottom of this link (http://www2.luresext.edu/aquaculture/turtles.htm). It was simple and cheap. Seems like it took a week or so before I started catching any.

gd get a 10ft stick of 4" sewer pvc,Dont use schudule 40,its too heavy.Cut it into 4 equal lengths and glue together with 4 90s.Do a good glue job,no leaks.Cut some rabbit fence approx 18" and wrap it around the outside of your floatand zip tie it in place.Make the bottom out of same fence.I made the fence stick up over the pipe about an inch.Make ramps out of the fence by bending a piece about 3' long into a v and attach to 1 or2 or3 sides so they can crawl onto the trap. When they get on it the fence sticking up a little makes it hard to slide off the outside but easy to fall in,and they cant get out because the pvc is too slick for em to get hold of.BOOM you got turtles. I read somewhere that you should leave 1 tutle in the trap when you emty it to attrack other turtles but not sure on that one. Ditto,Cheezy, seems like mine took a week or so also. I dont mess with mine at all.About every 2 3 weeks I get tired of seeing them tyiing to get out so I emty it. Its the darnest thing they can walk back home 10 miles huh.Its kinda funny,I wont shoot em but I do hope they become road kill barbacue (RKB)before they finsh their hike back home GD..if I didnt expain it well enough feel free to call me(if you can catch me inside)254-578-1192.Ive got duckweed and primrose to mow in the pond today so thats where Ill be.I know just enough about any and everything to get you in more trouble than you can ever get out of,thats one reason I read PondBoss...more ideas,,more projects more knowlgde more money more........
