What might it be? Was crawling around in/on the water surface/grass where the pond is flooding.

Wow, really.

I thought maybe it was something that was commonly around you, and that they might even be here too (frequently?) Just never seen one before, with all the dirt moving I have done it seems odd.

Going to look up more info on them later when time allows.

Because they're usually underground. They cause big problems on golf greens and home lawns; feeding on all parts of the grass.

They still kinda neet critters. Hold one in your hand and it will digout between your fingers with those digger feet. Used to play with them when I was a kid

Kelly - Maybe that is why I remember them. Could have been the economic entomolgy class. I have never worked in turf management.

I've seen them tunneling in sandy beach areas at ponds and lakes.

First time I saw one scoot across a pool in Florida, I soiled my armor. I did not know what it was, and boy are they ugly!
