hope I'm posting the pictures correctly. It's hard to tell in the pic but the leaves seem to be heart shaped.

Was the plant growing up on the bank out of the water before the pond water level rose and covered it? Or does the plant grow from the bottom of the pond and then poke up above the waters surface?

It grew from the bottom granted it was in shallower water but we had some rain. The stems have grown to allow the leaves to float on the surface.
