Hello to all...I have read some posts on Pond Boss over the past month or so and just now registered on the forum, so I am officially a member here now.
It is clear that there are many knowledgeable people on this site and a lot of great information to be gleaned. I am pretty much a neophyte on ponds, but I am making plans now to build a 2.5 to 3 acre pond on my farm in SE Iowa. So, in the interest of doing it right, I plan on doing a lot of reading here and asking many questions too.
Thank you in advance for any help or guidance that can be provided.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Welcome to PBF Dave! Looking forward to following along as your project progresses. I found the forum after I started my project. If I could roll back the clock, I would have visited the Pond Boss Book store and picked up Perfect Pond...Want One and Just Add water to help me plan. The bookstore can be found here if you want to take a look... http://www.pondboss.com/store.asp?c=8Good Luck and again Welcome! Bill D.

Thanks to all for the welcome and early advice. I had already subscribed to Pond Boss magazine and I just went ahead and ordered the two books recommended too. I have done a lot of habitat management...above ground...on my farm to enhance it for deer, turkey, pheasants, etc. But it is an interesting proposition to now be planning on making habitat that will then be flooded forever.
So I want to get things as right as possible before the pond is built and the water fills in. Above ground, if I screw up I can usually come back later for a fix up, below the water surface...I am treating that as a one-time chance to get it right.
Thanks again for the help. BTW...looking at the national weather, I assume that the Texas guys here should be filling up their ponds all over the place...lot's of rain there lately it seems.

I don't have a siphon but my 12 inch overflow pipe has been running about 1/2 full for weeks. It's blown a pretty good sized hole in the soil behind the dam. And, we're looking at 2 inches tomorrow plus forecasted rains for the next 8 to 10 days.
Local D/FW lakes are spooky full and water is being dumped. Hoping none of the dams blow and it isn't a sure thing according to the Corps of Engineers.
3 different gravel roads to get to my place. 2 of them are underwater and the 3rd is washed out but is still usable if careful.

Prolly won't happen till fall rains but it's lookin better than it ever has. I also have one road that can't drive on yet. No complaints at all

Pat, keep doing rain dances. I would love to send you some of the flooding we are going to get around this area(DFW) in the next couple of days. Most of the lakes are over full pool and serious storms start Saturday. Rain is in the forecast for every day next week.
