Can't sit still at my desk. Minnesota opener of fishing this weekend. I do the opener.... pond style(12 years now). 10-12 guys fishing 3 ponds, cooking gumbo, BBQ, frying fish, and crushing aluminum. Can't wait to see what the guys pull out of the waters this weekend. Seeing all the guys come together and have a great time on the ponds makes all the work worth while. Ages ranging from 22-57 years young. Bullhead tournament starts at sundown Friday night if anybody wants to join us. Teams event with a $1 entry fee. Only one rule, when the shot clock starts ringing(every hour on the hour), you must come to the island for a chuck Norris shot..no exceptions! The water surface temps are above 60F so the swimming challenge is off this year. The water is way too warm and with no risk of hypothermia, why bother. Pictures of the event will be posted next week... assuming I survive it.

Growing up in that frozen geographic area of MNFISH, I still think of bullheads as great fun and great eating. On my high school graduation night (back in the dark ages), a bunch of crazies headed to a friend's cabin on a lake that had lots of bullheads. We used lanterns and we threw pieces of bread into the water along the long dock. As the bullheads swarmed the dock, we swept them up with dip nets by the dozens. I agreed to clean and fry them. I don't think we ate or captured any trophies. But, 8-10 inch bullheads, battered and fried, sure are good. In recent years, another bunch of us crazies were invited to Sunil's pond to cull at least a 150 lbs., of bullheads (I think we met our goal). Sunil's pond ain't no normal pond. It is truly a trophy pond for many kinds of incredible fish. His bullheads were huge, averaging about 2 lbs. each. They may be a little bit of work. They are fun to catch. They sure are good eatn'. Sounds like a damn good time!!!
Take pictures...you can black out the eyes of the attendees with a black rectangular box.

WOW what a great time! Weather was perfect. Fish were biting and with the exception of a few wood tick almost no bugs. I am exhausted and I'm pretty sure I can hear my liver crying right now. No trophy fish, like the ones you guys raise, were caught but it looks to be a promising season. THANK YOU! To all on this forum for helping me accomplish my pond goals. Not done learning just yet but the results are encouraging. Opening night meal (Chicken, beans, coleslaw, and corn bread) Bullhead Tourney The shot clock has gone off! A few fish pics Yard game time

Outstanding! Mnfish, that's a great way to share your fish, and have fun doing it...
I miss both yard darts, and Blue Bell. But both have the potential for an unexpected trip to the hospital.

We still have a couple of old sets of lawn jarts in the garage. But I thought with 10 guys and libations on board, might be a little safer with bean bags and 5lb ceramic balls.
Al, It's so rewarding to hear guys telling stories through out the year about the Turkey Town fishing opener. For some, count me as one of them, its one of the best outdoor experiences in the year.
