Very nice hybrids! Fluridone is very effective... What are you using it to kill?

Absolutely everything within the scope of it's abilities, but mostly pondweed right now. I know...a pond totally denuded of vegetation is not what we advocate for here on the forum. And I know there are other chemical options effective on PW. But, this is going in the HBG pond, and a very critical component of my management strategy revolves around virtually eliminating recruitment of these fish. I want no cover whatsoever if possible.

My last fluridone treatment gave me that for two full years, on one single, simple, easy application. No water restrictions, we swam in it everyday, no danger of a fishkill. I don't want any hiding spots for yoy HBG, my goal is to make the predators' job easier.

And yes, the FA will adore it's competition free environment. But I have Aquashade and Cutrine plus for that. I know that a large segment of the membership prefers a natural pond setting, with minimal intervention. But I'm at the other end of the spectrum....whatever I can remove out of mother nature's hands and place under my control, so much the better.

George, I was a huge fan of the old Accardo line of "Miss Prissy" popping bugs. When Accardo went out and the supply dried up, I began searching for a replacement. I found it in the bug you see here, available at Breambugs.com. I usually fish these on a custom spinning rod built from a 2 weight fly rod blank...loads of fun!

Nice hybrids! I can see where keeping your pond weed free would limit recruitment.

Sprkplug for his HBG pond is customizing the pond management of cover and habitat to meet the goals of his fishery. This is the way it is supposed to be done. Know your goals and what it takes to reach those goals. Great work and thanks for sharing pictures of your great panfish management efforts.

I friend killed off a 4+ acre pond 90% covered in water shield with Fluridone. It worked miracles and 2 years later, no major return of water shield.

Lots of water was treated. Curly Leaf Pondweed was up to or almost up to the surface in a number of ponds, so it was treated with a light dosage and will be tested in a few weeks to make sure the concentration is there. If not, it'll be bumped with more Fluridone.

One week after intial application of Fluridone (Sonar). 8ozs of product in a 1/2-2/3 acre pond, average depth of 4'. This shot illustrates the non-selective reach of Fluridone, as even though pondweed was the primary target, the grass, and these cattails that are growing in the shallows are feeling the effects already.

Tony just saw this, good work. You may consider stocking dense populations of crayfish - you know what they did to my YP/BG pond - not a strand of FA, Chara, Baby or American pondweed was left by September. I know you have LMB in the pond, but if they aren't numerous, it's something you could consider following the fluridone treatment. Sure worked for me.

PS: Those fish are spectacular. Fly rod popper on a few I see? Well done, sport!

Two weeks after initial application (1/2 dose), and one week after second dose (other 1/2 of product).

Cattails showing more wash out, and starting to lay over.
