We've had tons of rain here lately and I'm noticing some signs of erosion on the backside of my dam.

Should I maybe plant some cover crop on it or something to try to prevent this or is it not really a concern?

You don't have grass planted on your dam? Yes, it should be of concern.

Get grass started ASAP - straw mats help keep seed in place, moist, and is easy to install with staples. I don't know the best cultivar for you down South, but I'm sure many on the forum can help. Up here we use natives like bluestem, indian, or buffalo grass - but also use brome and fescue if we need coverage fast and cheap.

Damn, I feel stupid for not thinking of it sooner. We've gotten a ton of rain. I hope there is no serious damage done.

My pond is only half full and so the inner area of the dam is exposed now but will not be exposed in the future. Should I plant grass here also even though the water will fill up and kill the grass or should I only plant on the top and back sides of the dam?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
