We wanted a pond for CC for the wife ,,started with a empty pond no fish [ was killed out pryor to my purchasing pond ]

I stocked CC 5-8 inches along with 20 2-3 lb CC
I have noticed my fatheads are increaseng at a alarming rate , you can toss feed or bread into the water and it turns black for 2 ft circle and a close look reveals what i would say are millions of fatheads ,, Is my catfish eating them ??

Are you feeding your CC ? If so do you witness them actively eating pellets? If your feeding at a heavy rate the CC may be not yet interested in many FHM yet, but that will soon change. As your CC get larger they will start to prey on them heavily between feeding times. I catch many CC on 3-5" bluegill.

tried floating pellet food but so far few takers ,, we have caught several om small hooks with worms just to check on them and they seem to be very healthy ,, i do know this pond is full of crayfish , weeds , tadpoles , some kind of salamander i think ?? not sure what it is but lots of them and other weird food looking creatures

I rarely saw my CC take feed the first year. Once in a while could see a few taking sinking pellets near shore. But never floating. My how that has changed this year. Probably 16 to 18 inch long and see them readily taking both floating and sinking pellets.

This spring would see them follow the BG in and be looking on the bottom wondering where the feed was. As soon as a few of them figured it out, now see lots of CC hitting and slurping on the surface.

A little sinking feed mixed with the floating might get them started on feed.

I put 40 BC about a month ago and don't see them rising to the feed. You think they will learn... They were raised on pellets from the fishery

Some of my CC just started coming to pellets tonight. First time I have seen them hit pellets since last year. I suspect water temp is high enough. I was only tossing 3.5 mm pellets to the SF so it was pretty funny watching the CC try to catch one!

Pat,

How big were the BC? With all those bass they may have been snacks?

They are still around at that size I'll bet. IMO Only 40 in yer big puddle, you will never see them unless you fish specifically for them and then still maybe not.
