I came across an ad for "Large Pond Snails" ($1 each) and was curious if anyone had any experience with/info about them.

These things are about as big as your hand...

Are they useful? Harmful?

I couldn't really find too much about them on the internet. But, one site says they're good because they clean up algae and another site says they're bad because they can eat fish eggs.

I don't know about large snails, but the naturally occurring snails I have in the ponds contribute to a parasite issue for my fish.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Thanks. I think I have seen some similar to that in Southeast Asia. Are the ones in your pic native to the US?

That I don't know. But, you mentioned Asia... the article I read that said they were beneficial did mention the species "Japanese Trapdoor" in particular.

I would not stock them due to them being an exotic species which the adults have few or no predators in most ponds and thus adults would harbor and encourage various fish parasites.

I think I'll go ahead and pass on the snails. Certainly don't want to risk any parasite infestation since you and spark both brought it up. Thanks.
