Just got back from the "farm" and the pond was sure alive today!
Minnows jumpin', frogs croakin', turtles bobbin' and a snake leisurely making his rounds around the shoreline. Excited to see things liven up since I haven't noticed any activity in the past two months. I guess Spring is here!
As I watched though, I spotted what I thought was a baby snake until I got closer and realized it was two fish (minnows?) face to face fighting, or doing some funny business. I watched them for about 15 minutes as they went round and round.
Weird thing is, their coloring. They were striped like a zebra. Black and light gold. I certainly didn't stock anything like that, so off to search google images to see if I can find anything that resembles them.
Any idea what they could be?

Are there YP in your neck of the woods? If so, it might have been 2 young YP trying to eat each other.

FHM will get light and dark bands when in spawning colors. Adults in spawning colors will look significantly different than what they might have looked like when stocking.

Poppy, I don't think we have yellow perch here. Few and far between anyway since it gets so warm they all die out. Snrub, I didn't know that. You're probably right then.
