Caught this guy on a trail cam by the lake last fall. First Moose ever seen up there in the 20 years since my father in law built the place. Seen a couple cows lower on the mountain a few miles away but never up top and never any bulls. Pretty cool thought y'all might like it.

Very cool. What area are you in?

Last summer I went up to Lake City and saw 2 moose. See a bunch or Mule deer up there but those were the first moose that I've seen in Colorado.

Pretty cool! Never seen a Moose up close, well, except for Bullwinkle, when he was hanging out with Rocky and Bozo at a classmates birthday party.

Outside of Montrose not too far from Lake City. I have hunted near Lake City, around Creede, a few times and got a bunch of Moose on video, one monster!!

JKB its a different world up there! Can't let the kids out without being on full alert. Last year we saw lots of bears and have had too many lion encounters. I had one lion almost jump my elk decoy 20 yards in front of me!

I can imagine. We have Black Bear and Cougars up by my place. One early morning I left my camper heading to work. Turned all the lights off and fumbled my way to the truck in the dark. Keys still in my pocket and have a hot cup of coffee. Something jumped out of a nearby tree, which landed rather heavy and broke some branches on the ground. Scared the crap out of me and it was like slow motion getting the key in the door, all the while spilling coffee all over myself. Don't know what it was, and didn't want to find out, but I would say it was much bigger than a Chipmunk wink

That's a great picture of Bullwinkle.

Small world....my late brother owned a log cabin in Lake City for 25 years. We just sold it in Dec. I am going to Lake City next month and have a guide on Blue Mesa Reservoir for Tues May 26th. Frontier Log Homes in Montrose is the company that built the cabins on our pond in Texas.

Blue Mesa is a great fishing destination, haven't been there since I was a kid. Loved visiting Gunnison, Ridgeway, and Ouray, my dad and us boys would fish all the rivers and streams.

At one point thee was some great fishing over near Telluride and Nucla, forgot the reservoir.

But if you get a chance try the lakes on Grand Mesa.

Zep - very sorry to hear about your loss. Just lost my father in law (legally my father in law but really my dad) one year ago. The cabin was his favorite place on earth and now most of his ashes are part of the place. God willing, my great great grand kids will be catching trout there one day.

That is pretty crazy you had a Montrose company build your cabins!! I haven't seen those pics yet. I will have to look for them. That's awesome!

Joshua is dead on! Blue Mesa is awesome!! There are some GIANT lake trout in there!! Down the road a ways in Ridgeway Reservoir there is also world class brown trout!! I hope you have a great time and look forward to some monster pics!!

I went elk hunting just south of Montrose last year, beautiful country. Sounds like I should have gone fishing instead.

Thanks wbuffetjr. I miss my brother terribly,
but feel his presence every-time I am at the property.
Sorry for your loss as well. They would want us to
"carry-on"....but easier said than done.

Yes my brother knew Frontier from his time in Colorado.
Frontier Log Homes are great people.

Them boys loved coming to Texas for a couple of weeks.
We punked them with our fake gators in the pond.

Can't remember the unit number off the top of my head, but it was just south of town. The weather was unseasonably hot and not a whole lot of cooperation by the elk. Still just being in the mountains as the Aspens turn made the trip.

Moose can be very dangerous. I saw a Japanese visitor In Grand Teton try and follow a cow with calf into the willows to take a pic. He was lucky to make it out alive.

Great photos.

When I still lived on the shores of Lake Superior many years ago, I was out grouse (partridge) hunting one beautiful autumn afternoon. I was in a mix of swamp, fields and forest. As I was quietly walking near the swampy area, along the edge of the field/forest, I encountered a bull moose. They sure look big when they are real close.

Moose(meese) are the only member of the deer family that I haven't hunted. I almost went a couple of years ago until I found out just how much mosquito repellant I needed.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Zep you are gonna have a blast!! That guide def looks like the man!! Some of those lake trout are unbelievable!!

Djnks It is hard not to have a good time in those mountains that's for sure!! I have eaten tag soup a few times and didn't mind it.

ewest that was almost darwinism at it's finest!!

Dave you are right they are huge in person!

Cat I was lucky enough to take a HUGE Canadian Moose a couple years ago! I don't know how it is everywhere but where we were, in mid September, the bugs weren't all that bad. Not near what I expected. We ate lake trout just about every single day and caught so many monsters there were times when I did not want to reel in another fish!! You need to go!

Oh yeah, check out the Hot Springs in Ouray and theres another set over in Glenwood Springs.

Hunting is great near the cone outside of Ridgeway and backside of the Uncompahgre for some good elk. Side note Montrose is where Wayne Carlton resides and made his famous hunting shows.

Zep you have spent a lot of time in my favorite places!! I gotta ask, why did you sell the cabin there? Why not keep it and enjoy some more Colorado time!
