i have an oily residue in a swampy area of my pond,its in a very small area in two or three spots.i do not think its oil though.i have seen this in swampy areas at other ponds and streams in swampy areas.my pond is healthy what is it? ps will take a couple of days to get back to this page going away for weekend.

gizmo, I have something very similar that I see in my pond from time to time. It is usually associated with an area where the dirt is very orange. I do have some old mine run-off, and I am certain that the color and "oil-looking" stuff is associated.

thanks sunil,ther are no mines near my pond.it looks as if it might be some kind of soil decomposition,,animal,mineral,any one else has this?it is very small 6x7 in a few spots.the pond is in ny(have seen this before in pa streams and ponds..swampy areas.
