After six years, my first FX. verified by it's lack of fin clip and small physical size. Looks to be favoring the BG side of the family.
"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"
If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1) And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1) Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT? PB answer: It depends.

Did you put him back in to see how well he grows, or harvest? If you put him back, did you mark him so it can be identified if caught again?
Good looking fish. What length?
Edit. I see the ruler now!

I stocked a few adult male northern strain, BUT that doesn't mean there wasn't a female BG already present. It was a swimming only pond, and was drained every year and killed off in order to grade the pea gravel bottom, eradicate the weeds, and dredge the muck. Still, there's always the chance a northern female found it's way in.
I didn't return this fish. It had a female look about it, and I culled it. If I had a spare cage ready, I would've gladly kept it since I am currently trapping and caging HBG spawn in order to try and grow them out. I've been trapping for a few weeks now, and I have managed to catch 9 yoy (hopefully HBG offspring), about an inch long.
They just don't last long in this pond.
