Took my first walk tonight. No morels, but the indicators are in place. Jack-in-the-pulpits, Trout lilies, Dutchman's breeches, and Mayapples are all in place, and there is plenty of moisture in the ground.
The woods looks and smells right.....it won't be long.
You pondbossers further south, finding anything yet?

And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)

Sparky, there is a site called Morels.com if ya go there they have forums for many states including In. Check em out.

Do we have any mushroom experts on the forum? The only ones I am brave enough to eat are boxelder and morel. I dun know enough to identify any others.

I only hunt for morels. Don't know about hunting for other kinds, though there are different kinds of morels, like yellow and grey.

I've heard former Midwestern folks who have moved to TX state they don't grow there in abundance for some reason, could be the soils are too acidic or it's too dry. However, I have heard of certain places in TX that will produce in moist, cool Springs. I'm guessing TX morel season is on or already waning.

I've seen a few reports from just south of me here in Central IL where they are starting to pop. I'd guess in the next week or so we'll see some good harvests.

Morels, canadian bacon, red bell pepper, cream cheese, romano, provolone, asiago, and mozzarella cooked on homemade oak lump on the Egg...the only way I cook pizza these days. Amazing!
