I'm pretty much finished with the 'materials list' for my aeration systems I'm installing, and am now starting to think about the actual install.

I got one heck of a deal on irrigation tubing, both for the underground portion as well as for the underwater portion. I'm now considering various DIY solutions to weigh the line down in a manner that will work well, but still allow for retrieval periodically to clean diffusers/deal with issues/etc.

So far I've come up with using plastic zip ties (won't break down under water) and securing additional sections of tubing filled with sand to the lines.

What unique solutions have you folks come up with for weighing down your aeration line?

If you use tubing filled with sand, put some holes in the tubing so water gets inside and air is not trapped in it. If you are using 5/8" ID tubing consider 3/8" rebar. Old chain works so does old welding cables and stranded cable. All the extra work adding weight to airline is why many consider it a lot easier and quicker to use weighted airline. Just connect it and lay it - minimal hassle. You can tie a knot in weighted airline and not kink it - very convenient but sort of pricey.

I have never been able to do a diffuser pull without kinking the poly tubing.

+1 FWIW My experience is once poly is kinked it cannot be unkinked. IMHO Poly should only be used in permanent installations.

I have seen the asked before and it's always a hassle for the guy trying to weight down that tubing. I really think if you added up the material and extra time it takes to try to weight down tubing your not that much from buying weighted tubing. Well... You could save 50 to 75 bucks I guess but it just depends on what your time is worth I guess and the hassle you may have later.

I laid my weighted hose down I got from the late Mr. Ted Lea (RIP) and never looked back. It took me about 10 minutes to lay and drop fusers down. That was in 2009 and I have never had one issue!

IMO the weighted hose it worth the extra cost bar none!
