I've seen people use them below dam at Lake of the Ozark's. You can't take your boat in a buffer zone below dam. They would use RC boat to take bait up to the good fishing. It would drop sinker and they would bring boat back. They was limiting out. Worked great.
Being able to get your line out like to a dam is a great idea. I've heard stories about what lies below. I read this article about an old timer that built his own rc fishing boat and he was the King of Shark Fishing in Florida in the 70's. A buddy of mine tried fishing with a little RC boat in the river a few years ago. I dun know what he was thinking but he actually tied a line to the little boat, baited the hook with a crawler and started trolling. From his description of what happened, I figure it was a big carp or cat that took it. Boat headed down river and submerged, kind a like in the movie Jaws when they hooked the shark up to the barrels. Never saw the boat again.
