I have a pond that is about 12years old. It has a clay bottom. It has never leaked in the past. We had a big rain this spring and the pond over flowed. there were field tile that went through where the pond is now but i dug way back from the tile and filled them with concrete when it was built. there is a water table about 8' below the pond. the water level stays about 2' low all the time now and I can't find out where the water is getting away. there are no holes at the water level that I can see.
help

Seems like leaky ponds are getting much more attention these days. Leaks are normal. But, when your pond fills, then quickly drops two feet, that's not typical.
You need more information. One thing for sure, your leak is somewhere in the top two feet. One idea which quickly comes to mind is to find a backhoe, and trench along the inside slope of your dam. Watch and see if water fills the trench anywhere along the way. That's a place to start. As you dig the trench, prepare to backfill and compact with the tightest clay soils you can find, mixed and pulverized with bentonite. If your leak is there, this core trench method is effective.
