Pond Boss Forums AERATION Systems questions Any issue with too BIG a supply line?

I've been in progress on deep water sanctuary aeration setup for a while now. Planning to deploy 2 stations, 3 diffusers each, at 18 and 24 feet deep along the main levee of my big pond.

The question of the day is, is there any issues with burying airline that's larger than needed? Understanding pneumatic pressure I don't believe there is, but wanted some expert opinions.

I ask because at a farm closeout auction this week I bought (among other things) around 1000 feet of 1 inch irrigation line. I know this is overkill but it was a heck of a deal...any issue with using this as my supply line for the 2 stations?

Hey DL are you going to have one main line and then Y off to each station or are you running 2 separate main lines one for each with a gang valve? Or are you using 2 separate pumps? I think the one inch from what I have read out here will be fine. But like you said an expert I am not. So lets see.

RC my plan was to run 2 lines in the same ditch....given the difference in depth I couldn't come up with a solution to get pressure allocated correctly without running 2 lines and a manifold at the compressor to control volume/pressure.

Yeah kinda figured that was your plan. Sounds cool would be sweet to have air that deep. That will mix things up for sure!! Maybe Bill or Sue or someone will chime in for sure on the 1 inch line but from what I remember reading I think you will be fine.

From my petrol-chemical back ground you will be in great shape. Really a larger line will take more time to build pressure but you retain more volume once your pressure is reached. This means that when your hydro gos out your air stations will run a bit longer.

Only con, that comes to mind is to make sure the air is good and dry going into the lines. I would expect you could get a build up of condensation in a larger line.

In my opinion it will actually be better. If you get some condensation and end up with a dip in the line somewhere, the larger line will take a lot more water condensation to have it freeze up.

I ran 100 psi rated 3/4" black plastic water line for my underground portion (the kind that comes in a coil) and it worked fine. Switched to 5/8 sinking aeration line for the water portion.

I ran 1" dia 100psi poly pipe over 500ft buried 12"-18" from my Gast 0523 to a simple manifold at the pond's edge then ran 5/8" weighted line to two double diffuser stations 10 ft deep in my one acre pond.
I think a single buried 1" line will carry all the air you will need and a simple manifold is easy to build. The big question is getting the correct pump to provide the needed cfm at your depths. Talk to Sue.
