Hi. I want to build a small pond on my property. I think a 1/2 acre pond would be acceptable. It would I think need to be entirely excavated.

Can anyone give me some names/numbers of contractors in Northeast Indiana who can build such a pond?

Also I have somewhat sandy soil (which I guess is unusual in my area). My neighbor's pond leaked until they brought in a lot of clay to line it. We would also like to keep the excavated dirt to mound along our property line.

Can anyone please give us an idea of how much my project might cost?

Thanks!

Mike

Mike,

Where in northeast Indiana are you? I'm a couple miles south of Ligonier on state road 33. I have a couple of guys in my local areas I might hook you up with if you're close enough. I also have at least one that I would not hook you up with. He didn't do a pond for me but he's a real Shister.

I would think you could get by with less that $10,000 if they don't have to bring in the clay. I would contact as many as you can in the yellow pages and go from there. You will find the prices vary tremendously.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Mike just wanted to add a collective welcome to the PB forum. Cecil can help you out with your question . There is a lot here on pond construction which will help you through the process so you will know what to look for and ask about.

Thanks for the welcome!

I live in northeast Fort Wayne, right around the Leo-Cedarville area. That's not too awfully far from Ligonier. If you know some contractors who would be good to work with and would come to my area, I'd appreciate the names, Cecil!

I'm speculating of course since we are so early in the process but I'd bet we'll need clay or another liner since our neighbor's pond leaked without it. Our property backs up to the St. Joseph River.

There does seem to be a lot of info on this site and I look forward to learning as much as I can about ponds!

Thanks!

Mike

Hey neighbor, I live in DeKalb Co. I will tell you that it is my personal opinion that Doug Wilson out of Edgerton Oh is a COMPLETE jerk. He dug me a 1/4 acre 12' leaking pond in 07. With it seeded and a 30' sand beach that cost me $5700. If you even talk to him, wear armor and do not turn your back. Good luck and keep us posted.
