We have now hit ice so thick I cannot drill through it with an 8 inch long wood bit. The first 4 inches are the refrozen junk, below that is the solid stuff. Interestingly no cracks in the surface due to the junk full of air vs. Last year's black ice with gaping maws that ate ice skates. So while the ice is soft and digs up easily while skating, it doesn't eat your skate.

Todd,

Thank for posting that but for some reason pushing out on your back works better than the prone position, at least it did for me! I know that from personal experience! LOL

Love the graphics. Reminds me of the ol' "This happened to me," page in Outdoor Life years ago. Anybody else remember that?

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I have had a good solid just under 6 inches of solid ice for sometime even with highs and lows hovering just above to just below freezing. Had some water on the ice the other day but it's refrozen.

If you can, kick off your boots. Even tho Cecil was only half successful at this I think it must have helped.

That was the first thing I would read when I got my new magazine! Brings back a lot of memories how I first got my love of everything outdoors.

Measured yesterday and had 8" total with 5" of clear down on bottom and 3" of white bubble filled snow ice.. Going to attempt to flood and get an area for skating again.. Limited to just a garden hose because my well output pipe is probably frozen in ice..

I have no hope still. 10" of snow on top of 3" of slush on top of unknown ice thickness. Bone chilling -30F wind chills and more snow expected.

No idea how the slush is not freezing in this weather. Weird dynamic for sure.

My fish seem to have backed off on biting. Instead of fishing in the deepest water I'm thinkin of setting up in shallow enough water where I can sight fish. I've always found sight fishing pretty fun.

I find sight fishing hard on my blood pressure! grin

Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?

I like the clip with the beard, gotta hurt tho.

My truck has literally been frozen to the ground while parked by my camper. Jump in, fire it up, put it in reverse, no-go. WT?, put everything in neutral then pop 4H and try again, still no joy. Go to 4L creeper and ended up with frozen mud shoes on my tires. I had to chip that stuff off before I hit the road, but didn't get it all, and it let me know that.

Potentially could get close to that cold tomorrow, but I'm on pavement this time laugh

Yep! Anytime you suddenly realize you haven't taken a breath in who knows how long, you're having a good time.

My windows are closed and the vertical blinds in the LR are blowing all over the place. Tad bit of a leak ya might say wink

Two 1500 watt heaters going, and my feet are cold.

Burrr.. It's just nasty outside. Yep, it's February in Michigan!

White out conditions here now even with the sun peeking out now and then between the snow showers. Winds supposed to be up to 45 mph.

Scott I'll bet you're getting more snow though. Right?

We are getting hammered right now. The current snow on the ground is like ice, and the new snow is just blowing so easily over it. About 6" new stuff this morning and wind is picking up with white-outs almost at a steady pace. Probably be some really big drifts later. Not good.

Temp is 9 F. right now. Windchill -15 F. My ice shanty although the tether rope is looped over a pier post, it's upside down. I'm stalling going out there. Just hope it's not damaged!
