midget, what are the laws on importing fish in Idaho? Will you need a permit? Does the person shipping to you need to be registered with Idaho?

A quick search reveals you need at minimum, a private pond permit and/or an importation permit if bringing fish into the state....Almost anyone that would ship to you will include current Vet certified health paperwork, but be sure it is valid with your state.

I have the private pond permit, just need to find someone that ships. I haven't been able to find a local provider as of yet.

All I know is you have some incredibly large yellow perch in some of your public lakes. I have two 15 inch fish an angler from Idaho gave me. They look to be about 2 1/2 lbs.

Are you allowed to catch some and put them in your pond? They are very prolific breeders.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

As CB1 says - worst case situation it might be easier to go catch a few of your own perch from a lake that is known to have big perch. The genetics of these small perch from this lake should be similar to the lake's big perch. The other option is to look for some of their eggs strands during spawning season and move about 2 to 3 ft of the egg ribbon to your lake to produce your own hatchling perch.

See the link in this link for an example of big perch from ID.

That fish has been in the papers, it's awesome. I might just have to find a couple around here. It would be good fun too. Thanks for all the help and thoughts.
