Pretty obvious the forum has been hacked by the China posts. We need Admin to remove the user.

Thank you. I am concerned the user name looked like a computer generated name. If that is the case, the computer will just change names and try to register and come back again.

Well Bill, it happens from time to time, but think it's covered.

Looks like it. I am impressed with the PBF gurus for reacting so quickly.

Kind of interesting. They are trying to get someone to click one of the links in their messages to get access to your computer

PBF gurus, please remove this thread. As a newbie I did not know this happens all the time.

JKB,

Thanks for filling me in on the situation!

Kind of interesting the China ID is still showing up as an on line user.

We take out a number of them each week. Software was added a while back that gets most of them.

You won't see most of them because ESSHUP stays up pretty late, and Dave Davidson gets up real early. They get the majority of them.

Even after we ban, report the IP and email of the user, and remove the user from our system, it will continue to appear for a period of time in the Newest Member list and Who's Online until the buffer is fully flushed and refreshed.

I think there's probably 2-6 per week (maybe more) that us mods take care of before anybody realizes that they were here.

It's been happening for years. We call him/her/it the alphanumeric guy and the first place I look in the morning is the new members area. The robo postings from China hit here and an awful lot of other sites.

Several years ago I got on early in the morning and found 200+ posts. By the time I finished deleting and banning my carpal tunnel and arthritis was killing me.

Not well known is that a hacker is why Mods were put on PB. Quite a few years back, I logged on early in the AM and found a pretty disgusting homosexual porn picture. In those days there were no more than about 30 or 40 users on the site. Cecil and Cody will probably remember that stuff. At 8:00 AM I called the PB office and told a lady about it. She didn't know what to do so tried calling Lusk who was, at the time, somewhere in the backwoods of New York with no cell phone connection. He called me about noon and asked what was going on. I told him but he also didn't have a clue but asked me to call JP Greeson, the webmaster and administrator. JP fixed it and recommended Mods. Bob called me the next day and we talked about it, who else to get, and just how it all worked. I had to call JP to figure out exactly what a Mod was, what to do and how to do all of this stuff without deleting the entire contents of the site. JP fixed things so we couldn't clobber everything. Dwight is now the Administrator and the only one of us who can really screw things up.

The first PB site was clobbered by a hacker and everything was lost. A new release had to be installed with beefed up security and back ups.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

We actually have one and it does work quite effectively. If something makes it past the zapper we report it to their data base. As Dave and Scott said, we do have one that makes it through a few times a week.

Also, if anyone reports a problem, all of us get an email from the site. I have my phone and tablet set to a distinctive sound for any email from the site. That way I can quickly look at it.
