Something I came across while looking through big bluegill page. Really a cool uncut look at crappie fishing video. http://youtu.be/T7nyruQoGyA

Snakebite
They been in a year mid February. Stocked at 4-5" now most are 8-9" and some 10-12". That I have caught and released. Just now learning to fish for them with hot pink soft jigs under a cork and crank baits. Hope they don't get hook shy like some fish do . Dumb is better....still catching them in shallow water (3' or less)even in the cold. Random shoreline with no structure

Pat is your pond a crappie/baitfish only pond, or did it have LMB or other species in it.? I don't think crappie are dumb fish though, if the sun is high and you have thick structure or shade it's nearly like fishing in a barrel.

Snakebite
I have CNBG,RES,black crappie and someone bucket stocked unknown quantity of LMB I was going to stock bass this year to give the forage people time to spawn and get ahead of the crappie... Well the bass got off a spawn and between the crappie, et up all the YOY. All about timing. The bass are now 8-12" long, not including the parents. Since they over ate the baitfish available I put 50# fatheads and50# shiners this fall to hold them over til next spawn is available for the crappie and bass to eat through the winter
I don't have Very much structure out in the open water - one rockpile on 4 pallets and 4 cedar tree piles, and prob 1/2-3/4 acre of flooded timber that is full of trees and brush
