We have a very small pond and am looking for around 40 bags (50lbs ea) of PDS Pond Seal (granular sodium bentonite) in Illinois or surrounding area. Willing to drive 200 - 300 miles to get it. Thanks for any info. Have check with several places close to our area with no luck.

Hey FishinPal,

All I can offer is if you go to most company websites they provide a "find a distributor near you" button.

Crazy idea I know...but if you are driving down for the
Pond Boss Conference next month you could make a pit-stop
in Oklahoma City on your way back home.

I guess shipping a pallet would be pretty pricey?

I have actually bought from them. Had it shipped. The guy (Steve) got me a good rate on shipping to the truck terminal in our area. May do it again. Was just hoping some one closer to my area might have it.

Had a good price on some sodium bentonite from WY for a little over 300 dollars for 48 50lb bags but the shipping was to be over 700 dollars. Don't think I will do that. If shipping was half I probably would.

You could try a feed supplier. Pig farmers mix it in with pig feed. Got a few bags that way once.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Hay Guys, I sell the salt water gel (sodium bentonite) in the oil patch and usually keep a few pallets around. These are 80 lb sks and usually come in 50 sks pallats that are shrink wrapped. Shipping a pallat at a time will run the cost way up if being shipped from here in N. La. So I would suggest going to the phone book and look under Drilling fluids or Drilling Mud. Suppliers up there would be Haliburton (Baroid), Baker Hughes and u may find a smaller co like mine listed. Anywhere that drilling for oil and gas and in some cases where water drilling might be. Water well diggers will usually use a polymer when drilling but may also have Bentonite and or Salt water gel(a common name used for Sodium Bentonite). I was hoping to make the PBC but was thinking about bringing a boat and not a trailer of salt gel that would have to unloaded and loaded by hand. There should be some drilling mud co's closer than Wyoming. Hope this helps

Water well drillers here use bentonite to help solidify the ground where they are drilling (some areas are VERY sandy) so the hole doesn't collapse as they are drilling.

Good idea on the alternative sources!!

I know that drilling mud co's are in Kansas and Ark and up in Pennsylvania and Colorado, Calif, S. Dakota, Canada, most likely Alberta and on and on. So there might be sources of this material closer than people know. smile And yes the water well drillers usually have Bentonite on hand but they can prob get Salt water gel from their bentonite suppliers if u ask them nicely to look into it for u guys.

Be patient and watch the downturn of drilling activity covering many areas of the country. There will be acres of drilling mud (bentonite) stacked along side of idle drill rigs over the next few months, at a very low cost...IMO ..

George you are probably right.

I read more oil rigs went idle last week
than any week in more than two decades.

I think if u purchase bentonite or salt gel at a stacked rig be real careful because the one selling it may not own it and that might be buying stolen goods. Be real careful here. And because of this downturn or oil crash, I would not wait to long on purchasing products in areas that is in a bust, which will be in all of the USA. Most likely those stockpoints will be shutdown due to bankruptcy or the closing in warehouses of that area. So if u are looking for either types of this sealer, buy it pretty soon if u can. Or keep an eye on the local warehouse and u might be able to buy it at discounted rates because they may sell it instead of transferring the product across country. People need to understand that America is being attacked. Financially attacked. They are putting the USA out of the oil production and people need to realize that. America is being attacked by the Middle East. And yes we all like the lower gas prices but where will be in a couple of years. You don't just put oil production back on line. It does not work like that. Are any of u guys old enough to remember the oil embargo by the Middle East? Sorry for the rant.
