TJ, outstanding fish.
So, has anybody really succeeded with SMB in a pond down this way? I know Chris and Bob have both stocked them in the past, but I'm not sure how everything turned out long term. You're going to...I have it all figured out. We're going to pop a .5 - 2 acre cell at el Rauncho and stock with TJ YP, SMB, WE and HBG or RES or RBS. Feed with well water and install a siphon system to take bottom water into pool, pump up to head of wetland, then down waterfall feature and back into pond. Gonna be a blast...and gives us an excuse to connect annually to supplementally stock. I have great sources for WE, and I'm raising both feed trained SMB and YP now. My nominal fee of tannerite exposition and a safe ride back home is surely reasonable. Oh, and I also want a big lolly - you know, the old fashioned ones that are swirled and big as a kids face. Uh, well uh, yeah. Yeah, that all sounds good. Maybe replace the waterfall with a flowboarding ride? Also, would this work if we did the street taco thing instead of the lolly? I could take you to a shanty that has the most excellent street tacos in N TX. Greasy corn tortillas with flat top charred barbacoa cheek meat, cilantro, bitter white onions, and nuclear tomatillo sauce? Perhaps some elotes too? We would have to hit the barrio to get them, but I'll be packing so you could rest easy while we wait in line. Just don't make direct eye contact with anyone while we're there, and our odds of survival should increase dramatically.

I'm in. I'd love to see Santa Claus in a shoot out.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I've been involved in my fair share of thread hijacking, but this one is a doozy!

snrub, no joke. This thread did take a weird turn.
But as I sit here waiting for things to warm up a smidge, I was reminded of Robert A. Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land".
To paraphrase, "Stranger in a Strange Land is the epic saga of a Nebraskan, Thomas Hudson, born and educated in Lincoln NE, who arrives in Texas with ''psi'' powers -- telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, telekinesis, teleportation, pyrolysis, and the ability to take control of the minds of others -- and complete innocence regarding the mores of man."
TJ will be fine as long as he patiently waits in line, and remembers the eye contact thing.

If you guys think threads going off in a tangent is a new or weird thing you haven't been on the site long enough.

Did'nt know much about FireIsHot but if he's packin to get tacos, he's my kind of guy. TJ, the no eye contact is sometimes vital if not enough ammo is on hand. Cecil, skip the pier and clam, I wanna see another pic of ya in one boot.

Then I thought, "No Bob would enjoy that too much if I fell in!" Instead I got the spud!

The show even inspired me to start a RMC [Riding Mower Club] up in Lincoln - the Bluegrass Bastardos. I might even wear my cut - it's a North Face vest with a few Daffodils in full bloom on the back. While it's not too threatening, one of the member's daughters did the sketch and we felt obligated to adopt the mascot - she worked on it for a week. In case you're wondering...yes, we wear black socks with our shorts.

Cecil, skip the pier and clam, I wanna see another pic of ya in one boot. Bob, I screwed up and left my primary carry piece in the hunting cabin in Wi. I had to retrieve it before leaving for Texas if that says anything.... Don't worry, I had my secondary, tertiary and quaternary carry pieces all available here in the interum. (there snrub, more for you to look up! ;)) (well, maybe..... )

TJ, we may have both missed the obvious. DD1 has publicly said that he would be interested in seeing all this. Having grown up in that neighborhood, I can't imagine any bad scenario where you or I would even come into play if Dave was there.
He could be our kryptonite to danger.

I'll keep the car running while you guys risk your lives for my tacos. My gang affiliation leverage seems to be abating by the minute.

Guys, this conversation brings to mind an old scuba diving axiom that goes like this: When you are scuba diving, it is not required that you be able to out swim a shark, only that you are able to out swim your dive buddy. You figure out the parallel to taco retrial .

Wind was blowing Saturday, with gusts up to 35 mph, but we gutted it out and posted a couple new pond records in the process in addition to several SMB, HBCP, WE [up to 18"] and YP! This fish measured 11.25", and I'm calling it a GRES hybrid. The margin on the opercular tab was very faint/nonexistent, and gape was very large. Added second photo below, sorry for the shadows. Pectoral nor caudal fins were very yellow, but still believe this a GRES hybrid. These fish were originally stocked in 2010 accidentally [ID originally as RES] at around 6". This fish measured 11.25" also, and shares a lot of characteristics with the first fish. I'm also calling this a GRES hybrid - note the bright yellow pelvic and anal fins, faint margin on opercular tab, and very large gape. Added a couple more photos below allowing a little better perspective. Last fish went 11" and my call is a female RES - several differences between this pure RES and the fish above. Was very excited to see her! All fish taken on teardrop waxie combo. Let me know your thoughts on the ID - eager to hear your feedback.
